In 2022, NZSEE supported the inaugural symposium for Advancing Women in Engineering and Construction (the AWEC Symposium). The symposium provided an opportunity for women to explore barriers against representation of women in the profession and their progression, share lived experiences, and discuss their vision for safe and inclusive workplaces, and equity in work and life.
We particularly acknowledge the significant personal efforts of Charlotte Toma, Annie Scott, Ellie Rishworth and Patrick Cummuskey, and we reiterate their own acknowledgement of the support and openness of all women who participated in the AWEC Symposium.
A summary report and paper has been produced on behalf of attendees and was launched at the 2024 Diversity Agenda Summit at Parliament.
The paper provides a clear and confronting picture of issues, that continue to persist. It provides tangible messaging that our members and our industry can apply in our behaviours and in our organisations.
NZSEE are pleased to promote this paper on behalf of the AWEC team and we encourage our members to read and spend time reflecting on the messaging.

NZSEE congratulates the AWEC team on this significant piece of work, and we look forward to continuing discussions.
