Kia ora koutou,
The New Zealand Earthquake Reconnaissance Programme (NZERP), under the umbrella of NZSEE, team expresses its sympathy to the people, communities and friends of Colombia affected by the last earthquake on the 10th of August 2026.
NZERP group has prepared a report within 4 days using open-source information (social media, satellite imagery, and geolocation of damage). This preliminary report is a first look at a still-unfolding disaster, with the team expecting to refine findings as more data becomes available.
Members can now view the multi-event viewer, including the Colombia event, and see all verified and geolocated sites from the NZERP team, filtering by event, damage type, and other criteria: https://www.seismicshift.nz/lfe/public/
As this is the third virtual-ERP mission in less than 2 months, we’d love your feedback on how useful this format is, so we can improve future reconnaissance efforts.
We would also like to acknowledge the voluntary contributions of Ahmed Khan, Alex Shegay, Ben Exton, Blair Harris, Catalina Miranda, Cesar Pajaro, Charlotte Toma, Dani Castillo, Doralba Valencia, Elena Eskandary-Malayery, Enrique del Rey Castillo, John Grajales, Joseph Barrios, Kaylee Wu, Kiran Rangwani, Lucas Sena Caicedo, Mauricio Convers, Paulo Alves, Samantha Krieg, Sean Han, and Stanley Chung.
As this is an evolving event, we anticipate further updates and welcome continued engagement and contributions from the wider NZSEE membership to support ongoing learning.
