The conference will be held at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and has the theme of “Te Aohurihuri, ngā piki me ngā heke – Designing for Uncertainty: Challenges and Opportunities”. to register please click here

We have had an excellent number of quality abstracts submitted, which is a reflection on the importance of this year’s theme to the New Zealand engineering community. In addition to the regular oral and poster sessions, we are in the process of lining up some great speakers for a number of plenary sessions. We have confirmed speakers from MBIE, senior practitioners, and multiple universities. This includes Ken Elwood speaking to the topic of “Ductility to Repairability”, and a plenary on the New Seismic Hazard Models and what challenges and opportunities this brings to the design practice. This will be presented by GNS and Alistair Cattanach. Sessions will also focus on low damage design, sustainability and how to both design for and communicate seismic uncertainty.

This will be an important conference due to the many industry task groups providing updates on regulatory changes and advancements in the design of best practice. Given the challenges we have faced this year in connecting with one another, there will be a strong emphasis on social events during the conference. A dinner is planned to be held at the Te Papa on the evening of the 28 April and we are finalizing options for site tours the day before the conference.
