Applications are invited for the 2009 EQC/NZSEE Ivan Skinner Award. The objective of the award is to advance the common interest of the Earthquake Commission (EQC) and the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering Incorporated (NZSEE) in promoting research outcomes which reduce the impacts of earthquakes on New Zealand communities. <br />

<a name=".h471"></a><h2>Applicants</h2>
Applications are welcome from New Zealand earthquake engineering researchers who have demonstrated significant achievements and have a basis for continuing commitments enabling further advances in earthquake engineering research. Preference will be given to researchers who are at a stage in their careers at which the award can make an important contribution to their further experience and progress. Pioneering research based on unusual combinations of knowledge and skills may be given favourable consideration.<br />

<a name=".h1003"></a><h2>Value and Duration</h2>
The EQC/NZSEE Ivan Skinner 2009 Award has a value of $10,000.<br />
<br />
The recipient must agree to provide EQC and the NZSEE with progress or status reports every six months and a final report and abstract on the research activities enabled/facilitated by the Award. The final report and its abstract are to be in a form suitable for publication in the NZSEE Bulletin, posting on the websites of NZSEE and EQC, for distribution by the Earthquake Commission, and for presentation to the Board of Commissioners. The preferred duration until the final report is provided is not more than two years. <br />

No application form is required. <br />

Applicants should provide the following information (briefly but clearly):<ul><li />A brief relevant curriculum vitae (one page).<li />A brief statement of successful research outcomes achieved.<li />References and abstracts for relevant publications/presentations by the applicant.<li />The names and contact details of two referees prepared to comment on the application. <li />A letter of support from a relevant expert/mentor.<li />A statement on further financial support conditional on receipt of the Award.<li />A brief outline of the research which will be enabled/facilitated by the research giving the objectives, procedures and intended outcomes (two pages).<li />A brief work plan indicating the start and finish dates of the proposed research and the current status if the proposed research is a continuation of ongoing research (one page).<br />

<a name=".h2502"></a><h2>Closing Date and Presentation</h2>
The recipient of the Award will be chosen by a panel established by NZSEE and including at least one nominee from EQC. The decision of the panel will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The Award will be presented at the NZSEE Conference.<br />
