2005 NZSEE Annual Conference

The Conference

The 2005 Annual Conference of the New Zealand Society of Earthquake Engineering was held in Wairakei from Friday 11 March to Sunday 13 March.

Theme: Planning and Engineering for Performance in Earthquakes

This year we returned to Wairakei, always a popular venue for NZSEE conferences. Wairakei is of course an extremely pleasant location with first class accommodation and facilities in its own right. The attractions of the geothermal wonders of our Taupo Volcanic Zone, the Geothermal Power generation plant and the Waikato River are right on your doorstep. Taupo with all its attractions is near by.

The imminent passing of the Building Act and the requirements of other legislation make it particularly timely that the Society reviews the “State of the Art” by calling on members to present papers at the conference that will both advance fundamental understanding and give guidance on good practice.

We sought papers consistent with the conference theme, around the following topics :

• Earthquake hazards for engineering & planning
• Engineering structures for earthquake performance
• Planning for performance in earthquakes and hazards
• Lifelines risk management for performance
• Mitigation for earthquake performance
• Planning for earthquake response and recovery
