NZSEE ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2002

The Society held its 2002 Technical Conference and Annual Meeting at the War Memorial Centre, Napier Friday 15 March to Sunday 17 March.

Napier has special significance for the history of earthquake engineering in New Zealand and we hope that many members and others with an interest in the subject of earthquakes will be able to join in what is certain to be a special event.

 

Conference Theme - Learning From Earthquakes: What Are the Gaps in Our Mitigation and Preparedness?

 

As well as papers on this theme, there were a wide range of presentations as usual on topics as diverse as:

  • An update on the new joint Australian and NZ earthquake loadings standard
  • How Kiwi technology is helping to protect a reconstructed hospital in India from future earthquakes
  • The role of engineers in reducing the impact of urban disasters
  • Advances in structural and geotechnical earthquake engineering
  • Progress reports from the Society's Technical Projects including Earthquake Risk Buildings, Storage Tanks and the new project on Building Close to Active Faults
